Hyperhidrosis is sweating beyond what the body needs for temperature control. This treatment addresses it by injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin into the skin of the affected area — usually the underarms, palms or soles. The toxin works locally on the nerve endings that trigger the sweat glands. The aim is to reduce sweating in the treated area without affecting the body's overall ability to cool itself. The extent of the reduction depends on the concentration of glands and individual response.
The treatment plan is not the same for everyone, because the pattern and severity of sweating is not the same. Before injection, the area of greatest activity is often mapped. The placement and number of injections are tailored to this map, targeting the glands where they are most active. An approach that is effective for one person's pattern on the hands may be inappropriate for another's under the arms. The plan is determined by the specific anatomy of the problem.

Lip Filler
A fuller smile, still your own

A natural fullness and a graceful lip contour, seen from the side.
Under-Eye
A brighter gaze
The grey-violet shadow under the eye lifts; the gaze reads rested rather than tired.

Texture, close up
A closer view of the same treatment, where texture rather than tone is the change.
Ultherapy
Tightened without surgery
Focused ultrasound, which works on the layer a surgeon would otherwise lift.
The first step is to establish whether the sweating is primary hyperhidrosis — a condition in itself — or secondary to something else, like a medication or another medical issue. Treating the symptom without understanding the cause is not the correct approach. Botulinum toxin is for primary focal hyperhidrosis, where specific areas are affected without an underlying illness. If there is a different cause, that is what needs to be addressed first, and this will be explored during the consultation.

Questions people ask
Answered as far as they can be answered in writing. Anything that depends on your own anatomy is answered by a surgeon looking at it.
Is the Botox for hyperhidrosis the same as for wrinkles?
The active substance, botulinum toxin, is the same. Its preparation and use for hyperhidrosis, however, are distinct from its cosmetic use. The dilution, dosage, and injection technique are all adjusted for targeting sweat glands within the skin, not the facial muscles that form lines. The injections are typically more superficial and are distributed across the entire area of concern, guided by the specific pattern of sweating.
How do you decide exactly where to inject for hyperhidrosis?
The injection sites are not uniform. They are determined by mapping the areas where sweating is most intense, as the concentration of sweat glands is not the same across the skin. This map guides the precise placement of each injection, ensuring the treatment is focused where it is most needed. The plan for the soles of the feet will not be the same as for the underarms, as the anatomy and sweat patterns differ.
If I stop sweating in my armpits, will I start sweating more somewhere else?
An increase in sweating in other areas, known as compensatory sweating, is a possibility. The body has millions of sweat glands, and treating one area does not impair its overall ability to regulate temperature. Whether compensatory sweating occurs, and to what degree, is not predictable for any given person. It is one of the individual factors to be discussed during a consultation, relative to the areas being considered for treatment.
How long does Botox for sweating last?
The effect of botulinum toxin on the nerve signals to sweat glands is temporary. The body gradually establishes new nerve connections, and the glands' activity returns. How long this process takes varies from person to person and can be influenced by the area treated, the dosage, and an individual’s metabolism. The reduction in sweating diminishes over time, and the procedure can be repeated when the effect wears off.
Where is the hyperhidrosis Botox treatment performed?
All treatments, including injections for hyperhidrosis, are carried out in a clinical setting inside a fully accredited private hospital in Istanbul. The specific hospital is named in the treatment plan you receive before any travel is arranged. An interpreter is present for all appointments to ensure communication is clear. The procedure is performed by a specialist in a sterile environment designed for medical procedures.
What should I bring to my hyperhidrosis consultation?
The most important things to bring are information. This includes a complete list of any medications and supplements you currently take, and details of past or present medical conditions, particularly neurological or thyroid issues. It is also very helpful to recount what you have tried for the sweating before, such as specific antiperspirants or prescribed tablets, and how well they worked. This medical history is central to the assessment.
