Dermal fillers are gels of hyaluronic acid, a substance the body already makes, injected into the soft tissues of the face. They can be used to soften folds, restore fullness to areas like the cheeks and lips, or build structure along the jawline and chin. The final shape is determined not only by the placement of the filler but by the qualities of your own skin and the support from the bone underneath. How your body integrates and eventually breaks down the product is also a factor.
The same volume of filler produces a different effect on every face, because it adds to a structure that is already there. A treatment is planned not to create one specific feature, but to maintain the balance between all of them. The projection of the chin is considered relative to the nose and lips; the curve of the cheekbone relative to the eye socket and the jaw. The aim is to add volume in a way that respects the existing anatomy and how it moves.

A natural fullness and a graceful lip contour, seen from the side.
A common request is to fill a specific line or hollow. Often, however, the line is a symptom of volume loss in a neighbouring area—a fold near the mouth is deepened by a cheek that has flattened over time. The most effective treatment may therefore be to support the structure that has changed, rather than to fill the crease it has created. This addresses the cause of the shadow, not just the shadow itself, and is a more fundamental approach to the face as a whole.

Questions people ask
Answered as far as they can be answered in writing. Anything that depends on your own anatomy is answered by a surgeon looking at it.
What is the difference between dermal fillers and Botox?
Dermal fillers are gels of hyaluronic acid used to add volume to soft tissue, restoring fullness to areas like the cheeks or defining features such as the jawline. Botulinum toxin works differently; it is a substance that temporarily relaxes the specific muscles that cause expression lines, such as those on the forehead or around the eyes. One addresses the loss of volume, while the other addresses the activity of muscles.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that the body gradually breaks down and absorbs. The rate at which this happens is individual and depends on several factors. These include the person’s own metabolism, the specific formulation of the filler used, and the area of the face it is placed in. Areas with more movement, for example, may process the product at a different rate than more static areas of the face.
How much filler will I need for my lips or cheeks?
The volume of filler required is determined by your individual anatomy and the objective of the treatment. One cubic centimeter (1 cc) is a standard unit, but the necessary amount is assessed during the consultation. The aim is to respect the existing facial structure and maintain balance. The thickness of the skin and the underlying bone structure are also important considerations in the treatment plan.
Are dermal fillers reversible?
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be broken down by an enzyme called hyaluronidase. If a correction is considered necessary, this enzyme can be injected into the treated area to dissolve the filler product. The response to this enzyme depends on the type of filler that was used and on the individual’s own tissue characteristics.
Where will my dermal filler injection be done?
All non-surgical treatments like dermal filler injections are performed in a clinical setting within an accredited hospital in Istanbul. The practitioner who carries out your consultation will be the one who performs the treatment. For all consultations and procedures, a dedicated interpreter is present to ensure clear communication. The specific hospital is confirmed in your written plan before you travel.
What should I bring to my dermal filler consultation?
It is helpful to bring photographs of yourself from several years ago. These provide a reference for your natural facial structure and how it has changed. A list of any previous cosmetic treatments, including the names of filler products used if you know them, is also very useful. Finally, please prepare a complete list of your current medications, vitamins, and supplements for the medical history review.
