Liposuction is a procedure that removes fat cells from the body. It targets subcutaneous fat, the layer that sits just beneath the skin, above the muscle. The aim is to reduce the volume in specific, limited areas and improve their contour. The final shape depends on more than the amount of fat removed. It is governed by the elasticity of the skin over the area, the underlying muscle structure, and your overall body composition. It is a shaping tool, not a method for weight reduction.
The same goal can lead to different surgical plans for different bodies. A request to slim the waistline is assessed against the shape of the hips, the ribs, and the back, not in isolation. The purpose is to create a contour that is proportional to the rest of the frame. Removing too much, or stopping the treatment area at an abrupt line, can create an unnatural result. The final plan considers how the treated areas will blend with the untreated ones around them.

Liposuction removes volume, but it does not address the condition of the skin that covers it. Skin with good elasticity will tend to retract over the new, smaller contour. Skin that has lost its tone, perhaps from weight changes or age, may not. This is a central part of the assessment. In some cases, removing the underlying fat can make loose skin more apparent. The procedure is planned with the skin's likely response in mind, not just the fat beneath it.

Does the fat come back after liposuction?
Liposuction physically removes fat cells from the treated areas, and those specific cells do not regenerate. However, the procedure does not prevent future weight gain. If a person's weight increases significantly after the operation, the remaining fat cells throughout the body, including those in the treated zones, will expand in size. Maintaining a stable weight is the way to preserve the new contour.
What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck?
These procedures address different anatomical issues. Liposuction removes deposits of subcutaneous fat to reduce volume and improve contour. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is performed to remove excess, loose skin and, in many cases, to tighten weakened or separated abdominal muscles. One addresses fat, the other addresses skin and muscle laxity. The consultation determines which, if either, is indicated.
Where are the incisions for liposuction?
The incisions are very small, usually only a few millimetres, and are made in inconspicuous locations. The surgeon places them within natural skin creases or in areas that are typically covered by underwear, such as the bikini line or inside the navel for work on the abdomen. The exact number and placement depend on the two areas being treated and the surgical plan required to access them effectively.
How much fat can be removed with liposuction?
The goal is to create a new, proportional contour, not to remove the maximum possible volume of fat. There are established medical guidelines for the amount that can be safely removed in a single procedure. The surgical plan is based on an individual's anatomy and the aim of blending the treated areas smoothly with the surrounding body. The focus is on the final shape, not the quantity removed.
Where will my liposuction operation be performed and who will be there?
The procedure is performed in a fully accredited, multi-disciplinary hospital in Istanbul, which will be named in your written treatment plan before you travel. Your surgeon works with LIN Europe Clinic's own dedicated anaesthesiology team. An interpreter from our staff is also present in the hospital to ensure clear communication with the medical team at all times.
What do I need for a liposuction consultation?
It is useful to have a clear idea of the two areas you wish to address. You will need to provide a list of all medications and supplements you currently take, and details of your medical history, including past surgeries and your history of weight changes. Being ready to discuss the quality of your skin in the areas of concern—whether it is firm or feels loose—is also a key part of the assessment.
