A neck lift targets the structural tissues situated below your jawline. During the surgery, incisions are strategically made behind your ears and often under your chin. The surgeon physically separates the skin from the underlying platysma muscle. Excess fat is removed or repositioned, the loose muscle is tightened and sutured together, and redundant skin is then excised. The primary mechanical aim is to alter the angle and structural contour of the cervical area.
The surgical approach relies completely on your existing cervical anatomy. Your skin elasticity, the thickness of your platysma muscle, and the position of your hyoid bone determine the mechanical limits of the lift. A lower hyoid bone prevents the creation of a sharp 90-degree neck angle, regardless of how much tissue is tightened. If your skin lacks elasticity, removing fat without also excising skin will result in sagging tissue.

Rhinoplasty
A profile that suits the face
The bridge lowered and the tip refined, judged against the chin and the forehead.
Rhinoplasty
The hump, and what was under it
A dorsal hump taken down without leaving a nose that looks operated on.
Rhinoplasty
A stronger profile, kept masculine
Reshaped so the line still reads as his — a smaller nose is not always the right one.
Rhinoplasty
Balance from the side
Profile view, where the angle between nose and lip does most of the work.
Otoplasty
Ears brought closer to the head
Seen from behind, which is the view that shows what the operation changes.
Otoplasty
Symmetry, seen from behind
Both ears set back together, so the two sides finish level with each other.
Otoplasty
From the front, where it matters
The front view is how other people see it, and it is the one worth judging.
Face & Neck Lift
The jawline, redrawn
Profile view, where a lift is really a change to the line between jaw and neck.
Face & Neck Lift
Rested rather than pulled
Front view. The deeper tissue is repositioned, which is what keeps a face looking like itself.
Jawline Contouring
A defined line under the chin
Seen from the side, where the angle between chin and neck opens up.
A neck lift is often confused with submental liposuction. While liposuction exclusively removes fat cells using a cannula, a neck lift addresses the muscle structure and removes excess skin. If the issue is a loose platysma muscle, known as muscle banding, liposuction alone cannot correct it. The structural repair of this muscle, called a platysmaplasty, is the defining component of a standard neck lift.
When attending your consultation, bring a comprehensive medical history regarding any thyroid conditions or prior neck surgeries. You must detail any weight fluctuations, as significant weight loss alters your baseline tissue laxity. Be prepared to point out whether your primary concern is excess skin, muscle bands, or fat deposits. Provide a list of all current medications, especially blood thinners.

Questions people ask
Answered as far as they can be answered in writing. Anything that depends on your own anatomy is answered by a surgeon looking at it.
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is a surgical operation that alters the anatomical structure of the neck. It involves removing excess skin, extracting localized fat deposits, and tightening the underlying platysma muscle. The procedure aims to modify the physical contour of the jawline and the anterior neck area based on your existing skeletal framework.
What is the difference between a neck lift and neck liposuction?
Neck liposuction is a procedure that only removes fat cells from beneath the skin using a suction cannula. It does not tighten muscles or remove excess skin. A neck lift is a more extensive structural surgery that physically excises redundant skin and reconstructs the underlying muscle tissue. Liposuction relies entirely on the skin shrinking over the new contour, while a lift mechanically removes the tissue.
Does a neck lift include a platysmaplasty?
Yes, a comprehensive neck lift typically includes a platysmaplasty. The platysma is the superficial muscle that covers the front of your neck. Over time, the edges of this muscle can separate, creating visible vertical bands. A platysmaplasty involves suturing these muscle edges back together at the midline, establishing a firmer structural foundation before the skin is redraped.
Can I get a neck lift without a facelift?
Yes, a neck lift can be performed as an isolated procedure without a traditional facelift. This isolated approach targets only the tissues from the jawline downwards. However, because the skin of the lower face and neck are anatomically connected, addressing only the neck may create a discrepancy if there is also significant tissue laxity in the cheeks and jowls.
Will a neck lift get rid of a double chin?
A neck lift can address the structural causes of a double chin if it is due to excess skin, loose muscle, or deep fat pads. The surgeon evaluates whether the volume under the chin is caused by submental fat or by the position of the underlying glands and muscles. The physical removal of fat and the tightening of the platysma muscle directly alter the contour of this specific area.
