Labiaplasty structurally modifies the tissue of your labia. During the surgery, the surgeon creates incisions to remove excess skin and tissue from the labia minora (inner lips) or labia majora (outer lips). The remaining tissue is then mechanically reshaped and sutured. The primary objective is to alter the physical size, symmetry, or contour of the labial tissue to prevent functional friction or address structural concerns.

The anatomical outcome depends heavily on your existing pelvic structure and tissue biology. Natural labial asymmetry is a standard biological baseline, meaning perfect mathematical mirroring is mechanically impossible. The amount of tissue the surgeon can safely excise is dictated by your blood supply and skin elasticity. Removing too much tissue can physically impair the protective function of the labia over the vaginal opening.

Labiaplasty specifically addresses the physical labial tissue, which is structurally different from a vaginoplasty. While a vaginoplasty tightens the internal muscular canal of the vagina, a labiaplasty strictly modifies the external skin and soft tissue folds. The surgical techniques, such as the trim method or the wedge method, focus entirely on the external anatomical framework without altering internal reproductive structures.

When preparing for your consultation, be ready to discuss your specific physical symptoms, such as tissue pulling during exercise or discomfort in tight clothing. You must disclose any history of pelvic surgeries, childbirth tearing, or chronic skin conditions in the area. Bring a complete list of your current medications. Clear communication regarding the specific structural areas you want to modify is necessary for the surgical plan.

No price list. Every plan is quoted for one person and one anatomy, so a figure only means something once someone has looked at yours — you get one in writing before you commit to anything.

Questions people ask

Answered as far as they can be answered in writing. Anything that depends on your own anatomy is answered by a surgeon looking at it.

What is a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is a surgical operation that alters the physical size and structure of the labia. It involves excising excess tissue from the inner or outer labial folds. The procedure mechanically modifies the anatomical contour of the external genitalia to address physical discomfort or structural asymmetry.

What is the difference between labiaplasty and vaginoplasty?

Labiaplasty specifically targets the external skin folds, known as the labia minora and majora, to reduce their physical size. Vaginoplasty addresses the internal vaginal canal, mechanically tightening the underlying pelvic floor muscles. The two procedures modify completely different anatomical structures.

Does labiaplasty affect sensation?

The surgery mechanically removes tissue and requires incisions near sensitive nerve endings. While the surgeon avoids the primary nerve centers, altering the structural anatomy can cause temporary changes in tactile sensation. Your baseline biological nerve distribution dictates the final sensory outcome.

What is the trim method vs wedge method?

The trim method structurally removes the outer edge of the labia minora directly along its length. The wedge method physically excises a V-shaped section of tissue from the center of the labia, suturing the remaining edges together. The technique chosen depends on your natural anatomical shape and tissue thickness.

Is a labiaplasty performed under general anesthesia?

A labiaplasty can be performed under local anesthesia, meaning the specific area is numbed while you remain awake. It can also be conducted using intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The appropriate protocol is determined by the complexity of the tissue removal and the surgeon's clinical assessment.
