A tummy tuck is anatomically distinct from abdominal liposuction. While liposuction exclusively extracts fat cells using a cannula, a tummy tuck physically excises loose skin and repairs the abdominal wall. If your abdominal muscles have separated due to pregnancy or weight fluctuations, a condition called diastasis recti, liposuction cannot correct it. The structural suturing of these muscles at the midline is a defining component of a standard tummy tuck procedure.
When attending your consultation, bring a comprehensive medical history regarding any previous abdominal surgeries, including C-sections or hernia repairs.
