Double chin lipolysis targets the deposit of fat that sits between the chin and the neck, known as submental fat. The treatment works to break down these fat cells. How much the contour can be improved depends on the volume of this fat, but just as importantly on the skin's ability to retract once the volume is gone. The underlying muscle and bone structure also define the limits of the final shape.
The same degree of submental fullness can have different causes, so the approach must vary. A profile is assessed as a whole: the projection of the chin, the angle of the jaw, and the quality of the skin are all part of the same picture. Addressing only the fat under the chin without considering these other structures can create an unbalanced result. The aim is a smooth transition from the jaw to the neck, not simply a reduction of one isolated area.

Lip Filler
A fuller smile, still your own
A measured lip filler result, judged against the rest of the face rather than a trend.
Lip Filler · Front
Defined and symmetrical
Seen head-on: balanced volume and a clean lip border, left and right in agreement.
Lip Filler · Profile
Soft, natural volume
In profile, volume that follows the line of the face instead of interrupting it.
Lip Filler · Side
Balanced from the side
A natural fullness and a graceful lip contour, seen from the side.
Under-Eye
A brighter gaze
The grey-violet shadow under the eye lifts; the gaze reads rested rather than tired.
Under-Eye · Hollow
The hollow evened out
The tear trough is supported gently; the dark ring opens and the tired look goes.
Skin · Hydration
Plump, hydrated skin
Dryness and dullness recede; the skin looks hydrated and alive again.
Skin · Even Tone
An even, smooth tone
Skin tone evens out; pigmentation and flatness give way to clarity.
Skin · Glow
A healthy glow
A glow that comes from underneath — the kind makeup cannot imitate.
Hydrafacial
Clearer, and calmer
Skin photographed before and after a course of Hydrafacial treatment.
Hydrafacial
Texture, close up
A closer view of the same treatment, where texture rather than tone is the change.
Ultherapy
Tightened without surgery
Focused ultrasound, which works on the layer a surgeon would otherwise lift.
The fat under the chin often works with the skin to hide the structures beneath. Once that fat is reduced, the anatomy of the neck becomes more visible. This includes the platysma muscle, which can appear as vertical bands, and any pre-existing skin laxity. These are not caused by the treatment, but may become more apparent. The consultation will evaluate the fat as well as the overlying skin and muscle to anticipate this.

Questions people ask
Answered as far as they can be answered in writing. Anything that depends on your own anatomy is answered by a surgeon looking at it.
What is the difference between double chin lipolysis and a neck lift?
Double chin lipolysis specifically targets the deposit of submental fat. Its aim is to reduce this volume. A neck lift addresses different structures: it is a procedure for loose skin and the underlying platysma muscle, which can appear as bands. While reducing fat can improve a profile, it does not tighten skin. The choice between them, or whether they might be combined, depends on whether the primary issue is fat, skin laxity, or both.
Are the results of double chin lipolysis permanent?
The procedure works by breaking down fat cells in the submental area. Once these cells are removed, they do not grow back. However, the remaining fat cells in the body can still expand with weight gain, which could affect the area. The contour of the neck and jaw will also continue to change over time due to the natural aging process, which affects skin elasticity and muscle tone.
Is double chin lipolysis suitable for everyone with a double chin?
Suitability is not determined by the presence of submental fat alone. The critical factor is the quality of the overlying skin. The procedure reduces volume, and the skin must have enough elasticity to retract smoothly over the new, smaller contour. Where skin laxity is significant, removing the underlying fat can make the looseness more apparent. The consultation assesses skin tone, fat volume, and bone structure together.
Should I lose weight before having double chin lipolysis?
It is generally advised to be at a stable weight that you can maintain. Submental fat can be influenced by weight fluctuations. Assessing the area when your weight is stable allows the surgeon to distinguish between fat that is resistant to diet and exercise and fat that is part of your overall body composition. This provides a clearer picture of what the procedure can address.
Where is the double chin lipolysis procedure performed?
All procedures, including double chin lipolysis, are conducted in a fully equipped operating theatre at an accredited hospital in Istanbul. The specific hospital is confirmed in your written plan before you travel. The surgical team includes the surgeon, LIN Europe Clinic's own specialist anaesthetist and their team, and surgical nurses. A dedicated interpreter is present throughout to ensure clear communication.
What should I bring to my double chin lipolysis consultation?
The consultation is a conversation about your anatomy. It helps to bring any photographs of your own profile from the past that show how the area has changed. Also prepare a list of all medications, vitamins, and supplements you take regularly. Be ready to discuss your medical history, particularly any previous treatments to the neck or jaw, and how your skin tends to heal or scar.
